The Florida chapter has always strived to provide valuable educational programming to our members each month. During our leadership retreat this July, we worked on a Google Sheet of ideas for the upcoming chapter year’s meetings. By the end, we had a tentative schedule laid out. The only reason I say tentative is in case we have trouble scheduling presenters from outside the chapter for a particular month and can shuffle them around with other topics. Since the topics are planned this far in advance, we do not believe scheduling presenters will necessitate shuffling the topics around.
With all that said, here’s the upcoming chapter year’s meeting slate:
|September||9/22/22||Tool Tips (Example: Madcap Flare, Snagit, Arbortext, Microsoft Project)|
|October||10/20/22||Introverted Leadership Panel|
|December||12/15/22||Holiday Networking Social|
|January||1/19/23||Work Place Respect and Resolving Conflict|
|February||2/16/23||Joint FTC Meeting: Young Professionals Panel|
|March||3/16/23||Annual Employment Panel|
|April||4/20/23||Our Role in Agile Development and Agile Tools|
|May||5/25/23||DITA Deep Dive|
|June||6/15/23||End of Year Social and Elections|
All educational programs listed will be held on Zoom and available for our new meeting fees. If there is a topic you’d like to see us cover in the future, please add it in the comments below.
For the 2022-2023 chapter year, we are adjusting our meeting fees for educational programs to the following:
- Free for student members
- $5 for STC Florida Chapter Members
- $15 for all other attendees
Virtual Networking Meeting
We also have our free virtual networking meetings on the second Tuesday of each month, typically at 7:30pm EST on Zoom. We send a reminder with a link to join that meeting the day before. Join us on August 9 at 7:00pm EST (a half hour earlier than the typical time) for a discussion on value of MadCap Flare skills for technical communicators.
August STC Summit Recap Meeting
We’re excited for the upcoming chapter year and hope to see you on August 18 at 6:30pm EST for networking with the program on the STC Summit Recap presented by UCF’s FTC students and recent grads starting at 7:00pm EST!
For years, the Flroida chapter hosted a traditional Washlines event to convey information on our profession gathered at the Society’s annual international conference in a lively “mini-conference” format that has, over the years, varied from speaker panels to progression tables.
We can now make this event available to technical communicators across Florida and beyond as we hold this event virtually.
September Tool Tips Meeting
The STC Florida chapter will be hosting a tech comm tools meeting on September 22 at 6:30pm EST. We know a lot of our chapter members use a variety of tools every day and have picked up a variety of useful shortcuts and best practices. We are looking for people to join us for a short presentation on tips and tricks for a software application you use at work. For example, if you use Madcap Flare, Snagit, Arbortext, Microsoft Project, or anything that help you complete the tasks needed for your job, please joins us to give a mini-presentation (10-15 minutes).
Please click here to volunteer by Monday, August 29, if you are interested in sharing your knowledge and perspective. Presenters will need a webcam and microphone. We ask that all presenters prepare a few slides or screenshare to walk through tips for attendees. Networking begins at 6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time, and presentations begin at 7:00.
What time will these meetings take place? I’d like to add them to my calendar. Thanks!
Typically 6:30 PM EST for networking with the main program from 7:00 PM EST to 8:30 PM EST. We’ll let you know if there are any changes to the programming and meeting times.
