At the end of the year, the chapter had 2 holiday socials. The first was a holiday trivia party on Zoom for all to join – especially for our out-of-state chapter members. We had a great turnout for trivia and everyone had a good time chatting and guessing answers.
Discussion time, which involved talking about favorite holiday beverages and snacks and plans for the holidays and the new year. Trivia included:
- Who was the first person to put lights on a Christmas tree (Martin Luther)
- Where to see the winter solstice in the UK (Stonehenge)
- Which country eats KFC to celebrate Christmas (Japan)
- What tinsel was originally made from (silver with tin/lead)
- What tale inspired the first gingerbread house (Hansel and Gretel)
If you liked our virtual holiday social or think it sounded fun, be sure to join us for any other of our monthly networking socials. Taking place on Zoom, and free to all, they are our way of catching up or getting to know new members each month in a casual setting with some fun discussion questions involved too, typically with a seasonal or tech comm theme. There is one coming up soon on January 15. You can also see a calendar of future socials in the event calendar included here.
The following Saturday, December 14, those who were able to join in person met up at Bonefish Grill, near Waterford Lakes Plaza in Orlando, for dinner. Holiday dinner socials are a newly returning annual tradition for the chapter.
Chapter members and their families and friends gathered to reunite, catch up, and celebrate the holidays. Current and veteran leaders, new and long-time members, mentors and their student mentees, and all in between were welcome and in attendance.
Socials like these, especially this dinner gathering, offered a great way for us in Florida to see each other again after a long time.
Be on the lookout for a future poll that will help us plan future in-person socials like this one. If you attended, we’d love to know how you enjoyed it, and even if not, we would appreciate knowing if you’d attend future ones, what location they could be in, and how often you would like to see us continuing to host them.
