Join the STC Florida chapter for a tech comm tools meeting on September 22 at 6:30 pm EST. Every technical communicator uses a variety of different software applications every day, and, lucky for us, our panelists have picked up a variety of useful tips and best practices. We are thrilled to welcome the panelists below who are giving short presentations on tips and tricks for these software applications you might use at work.

Speaker Bios

Scott Deloach

Scott DeLoach is a certified Flare consultant and trainer and the CEO of ClickStart. He is the author of MadCap Flare: The Definitive Guide, and he manages the MAD for Flare certification program. Scott holds a master’s degree in Technical and Scientific Communication from Miami University (Ohio). and he is an ATD Certified Talent Development Professional (CTDP) and STC Fellow. Amanda Patterson, PhD

After several years teaching college-level writing, Amanda ‘fell into’ her first tech writing job. And it was love at first manual! Amanda has spent much of her tech writing career building and deploying automated assembly equipment in the manufacturing industry. Currently, she is the Technical Communications Manager at Hunter Douglas, where her foci are on internal and external product documentation for luxury window coverings and growing her rockstar team.

Outside of the office, Amanda is the current Programs Manager for the Rochester chapter of the Society of Technical Communication, a role she loves because she connects with exciting people and helps share their work with the tech comm community. Her Ph.D. is in Comparative Literature with a specialization in Sci-Fi and the human experience of the future. Feel free to ask her if she thinks she’s a robot today.

Alex Garcia

Alex Garcia (He/El) is the outgoing Vice-Chair of STC’s Community Affairs Committee, where he specialized in chapter outreach. Professionally, he has over 13 years of experience documenting hardware systems in the aerospace and defense industry, currently at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control (MFC). Due to his passion for diversity and inclusion, he is currently on special assignment as the Vice-Chair of the Lockheed Martin MFC Business Area’s PRIDE Business Resource Group. 

An STC member for 16 years, he has held just about every role in the STC Florida Chapter. As a student member, he was president of the Future Technical Communicators (FTC) organization at the University of Central Florida and served as co-manager of the student mentoring program. As a professional member, he served as the Jaffe Award Committee chair, editor of the Memo to Members chapter newsletter, chapter treasurer for two years, and then two terms as chapter president. For his leadership and dedication, the Society awarded him the Distinguished Service Award for Students (DSAS) in 2006 and the Distinguished Chapter Service Award (DCSA) in 2013 and 2015. Alex presented at the 53rd Annual STC Summit in Las Vegas in 2006 and the 65th Annual STC Summit in Orlando.

Bethany Aguad

Bethany Aguad (she/her) currently works as Technical Documentation Manager at Silent Eight. She is President of the Florida Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC), a former member of the STC Board of Directors, and co-chair of the Education Committee. Bethany has served her local chapter, STC Florida, in many positions, including Treasurer, Webmaster, and most recently, President. She has nurtured her passion for student outreach through co-managing the education committee, pairing students at the University of Central Florida (UCF) with professionals in the industry.
